Hints and tips for successful online shopping

The success of online shopping cannot be denied and its popularity is mainly due to the fact that it can be done in the comfort of your own home and delivered to your door. It can be a great alternative to traditional shopping methods because it saves so much time and there is an amazing amount of choice available. However, as appealing as online shopping seems, there are some pitfalls and you should be aware of these before you embark on making any purchases.

The following is a list of DO’s and DON’T’s that will help you to make your online shopping experience more successful:

1. Make sure that you are confident that the company you are buying from is reputable. Read their terms and conditions and ensure you are satisfied with their returns policy. Never complete an online transaction if you are not entirely satisfied with the contractual agreement you are entering into by purchasing from a particular vendor.

2. Ensure that your privacy is guaranteed. Most online sites will ask for your permission to pass on your details to other companies who may wish to notify you of offers in the future. Exercise your right to protect this information as you see fit.

3. Payment by credit card is the best option. By paying by credit card you will be afforded a greater level of consumer protection and if you enter into a dispute with the vendor regarding extra unauthorized charges you are in a better position to withhold payment if you feel the vendor is not keeping to his side of the agreement. Although it is common policy for most online vendors to guarantee that you will not be liable to pay any unauthorized charges to your credit card, you should be aware that you will normally be only required to pay for the first $50 in the rare event that unauthorized charges should occur. Protecting your credit card details is vital and only pay by credit card if you see the padlock or unbroken key icon in your web browser. Finally, never disclose your credit card details on unsecured sites or by email. As a note, consoder using Paypal payment services, it is one of the best alternatives for online payment.
